KIGALI - Prime Minister Bernard Makuza, yesterday, met the British High Commissioner to Rwanda, Benedict Llewellyn-Jones, anddiscussed bilateral relations between both countries.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting in his office, Makuza said that they exchanged views on government programmes such as governance, economy, justice, community development and the foreign policy.

"The UK is the largest contributor to our country’s budget and we appreciate their continued support,” he noted.

The Prime Minister added that, he and Llewellyn-Jones also talked about strengthening cooperation and expanding the existing partnership between Rwanda and the United Kingdom.

He added that the UK was among the first countries to recognise that Rwanda can effectively manage financial and technical assistance from donors.

"In addition we held talks about the integration of the East African Community and Rwanda’s role in the Commonwealth,” the Prime Minister said.

The UK Envoy confirmed his country’s commitment to support development projects in Rwanda.

"The discussion was based on the continuation of our current support to Rwanda, and we are committed to ensure a strong and constructive relationship between both countries,” Llewellyn-Jones said.

Later, the Prime Minister received the Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, Shu Zhan.
