Bugesera-The Governor of the Eastern Province, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, met her Burundian counterparts, yesterday, to discuss the facilitation of business along the Rwanda-Burundi common border.

The aim of the meeting, that brought Kirabo and her counterparts Reverie Nzigamasabo and Petronie Sindabahaga of Kirundo and Muyinga provinces, respectively, was to ease cross-border movement by residents of the neighbouring provinces.

"Security is our primary concern because of its importance to development. We are allowing Rugarama and Munzenze in Bugesera and Nyamaswa in Kirehe District, entry points, to be frequented by people from either country during market days,’ she said.

The meeting held at Nemba border in Bugesera District, was also attended by security officers from the two countries.

The officials also agreed to speed up issuance of temporary travel passes to facilitate the movement of people between the two countries.

The Burundian governors said the new agreement paves way for more people from the two countries to conduct business in the spirit of the East African Community.

"Since we are members of the EAC, we shall inevitably facilitate our peopleto move freely within member states, without causing problems.

It is our duty to check on crime...this we can do without limiting the movement of people within the two sister countries,” Sindabahaga added.
