Rwanda has backed Uganda’s sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi after being elected as the President of Zone Five at the Supreme Council of Sports in Africa.
Bakkabulindi was elected last week as the president of Zone five which represents Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Sudan and Uganda.
The Director of Sport in the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport Gaspard Kaijuka told Times Sport yesterday that despite the Ministry’s failure to attend the council’s general assembly, they are ready to work hand in hand with Bakkabulindi towards the development of the sport on the continent.
"Our Sport Minister (Joseph Habineza) missed the general assembly which was shifted from last year to early this year due to other commitments but we are backing the elected president to take charge of the council," Kaijuka said.
Habineza missed the general assembly because he was taking part in a continental youth convention held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Supreme Council of Sports in Africa was formed IN 1965 to fight for sports development on the continent with the main target of luring African presidents to support sports.
Bakkabulindi’s election follows a meeting in Congo Brazzaville recently that gathered sports ministers of the respective members.
