CECAFA is waiting patiently for Egypt’s Al Ahly and Liberty Professionals of Ghana to confirm their participation in next month’s Kagame Club Championship.

The body’s Secretary General Nicholas Musonye yesterday said that while the two guest teams initially expressed their interest to play in the regional tournament, they are yet to make a formal confirmation.

Regional teams in the fray include El-Merreikh and Al Hilal from Sudan, Tanzania’s Simba, Zanzibar Ocean View from the Isles, Burundi’s Vital’O, Port of Djibouti, Kenya’s Ulinzi, Red Sea of Eritrea, Ethiopia’s St. George, Somalia’s Elman and two teams Rwanda; Etincelles and defending champions APR.

With a lump sum sponsorship package from Al-Merreikh Group (Rwf595m) and President Paul Kagame (Rwf35.76m), this year’s winner will pocket a staggering Rwf23.8m while the first and second runners up will settle for Rwf11.9m and Rwf5.95m respectively.

The tournament which kicks off June 20, will see APR hunting for a fourth title after victories in 2004, 2007 and 2010.
