KICUKIRO - Residents in Munini Cell were in high spirits when Prime Minister Bernard Makuza commissioned the newly constructed Luna d’Or road that branches off the Kicukiro-Bugesera-Kanyaru highway.

The two kilometre stretch in Niboyi Sector was constructed through the Common Development Fund (CDF) at a cost over Rwf600 million.

Residents noted that the new road offers opportunities for developing their district

"It has always been a problem driving along this road especially during the rainy season.  Sometimes clients would even stay away from this area; but now I have passengers to transport,” said Fredrick Patience Ndikubwimana, a local taxi driver.

A woman living along the new road commended the government, especially the district mayor, Paul Jules Ndamaje, for ensuring the construction of the road.

"Our mayor has always pledged to develop our area and this road was one of his promises. It was not worth being called a road before; but I think it now qualifies as one. We used to suffer from constant coughs due to too much dust,” remarked the 57 year old Aline Mujawamariya.

The Minister hailed the community for the good collaboration with the government.

"The government hopes for further cooperation with you to ensure the construction of feeder roads to connect your homes with the main road,” Makuza told the crowd.
