GATSIBO — The Board of Governors of Apecom College Kiramuruzi on Tuesday fired the school’s headmaster and demoted the deputy head teacher for registering poor results in last year’s senior three national examinations.

Loellis Nkwaya who had headed the school for years had consistently registered poor results every academic year, according to records at the district. Last year only one out of 100 students who sat for exams passed. His deputy Jane Mugenyi was demoted to class room teacher.

Much as the sacking was not a district decision, it serves to answer the earlier warning issued weeks ago by the district mayor Vincent Murego, to fire head teachers whose schools perform poorly.

Vincent Murenzi, a member of the Board of Governors stressed on Wednesday that Nkwaya was sacked for consistently producing poor results over years.

A source at the school said the board had issued last warning to the headmaster after the school performed poorly in ‘O’level results.

Sources who preferred anonymity said parents had also threatened to transfer their children to other schools, if Nkwaya remained the head.

"Due to repetitive poor performance, students had started abandoning the school and senior one enrollment was very poor this term," the source said.

"The headmaster and his deputy lacked managerial skills and could not manage the school staff," Murenzi said.

Currently the school is yet to get a replacement for the two posts. Meanwhile, the Board of Governors of Gabiro High School has dismissed over ten unqualified teachers and those who had less than 18 lessons a week.
