Ten Rwandan students studying under the Presidential Scholarship Programme were, last week, awarded Bachelor’s Degrees in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems and Electrical Engineering from the Oklahoma Christian University.

A statement from the Rwandan Embassy in Washington says that one of the students was ranked among the best six with the highest GPA at the university, whereas the other nine also performed notably well.

During the graduation ceremony, the university president, Mike E. O’Neal congratulated the students, saying that they showed high potential and capability in both the academic and social life throughout their stay at the campus.

"We are impressed by President Kagame for his work and the vision to promote a knowledge-based economy, an inspiration to all of us including the students.”

The graduates also thanked the Rwandan government for making it possible for them to acquire high quality education.

The Presidential Scholarship Programme was initiated in 2006 by President Kagame to provide opportunities for talented youth to pursue higher education in various universities in the United States.

Oklahoma Christian University was the first university to start a partnership with the government under the programme.
