The Blessed Sisters might be novices in Rwanda’s music scene, but the annual 2011 Groove Awards gala was confirmation of hard work from the performers last Saturday night as the group managed to scoop an award. 

A packed Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) at Nairobi, Kenya was a carnival of the region’s gospel music awards ceremony.

However, the evening also made clear that the ears of the world are also important, and open to hearing the region’s experienced and burgeoning soul, pop, blues and jazz gospel artists.

The Groove Awards with Skizza, now in its sixth year, was held April 30, in a lavish red carpet ceremony relayed live by NTV. 

Six gospel artists Dominic Nic, Gaby Irene, Aline Gahongayire, Aime Uwimana and Patrick Nyamitari represented Rwanda and Blessed Sisters emerged winner.
Contestants from the five participating countries: Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and Southern Sudan enjoyed the red carpet reception.
 
The awards were presented in the following categories: Male Artist of the year, Female Artist of the year, Duo/Group of the year, New Artist/Group of the year, Song of the year and Album of the year video of the year.
