GASABO - The management of Umubano Hotel, on Friday, donated three Friesian cows and an assortment of household goods to vulnerable widows of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi living in Ngara Cell, Bumbogo Sector in Gasabo District.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Rosemary Mbabazi, the Chairperson and caretaker of Umubano Hotel, said that the donation was aimed at improving the social welfare of the widows.

"This donation is in line with the government program of One-cow-per-family which will help the beneficiaries achieve sustainable development,” Mbabazi said.

The donation included cartons of washing soap, cooking oil and sacks of maize flour.

Mbabazi asked the beneficiaries to always work hard saying it will enable them to fight poverty.

She also urged them to take good care of the in order to get maximum production from them.

Marie Vianney Ntaganzwa, the Executive Secretary of Bumbogo Sector, thanked the hotel for the donation, adding that the local leadership will provide free veterinary services for the cowst.

 "I thank Umubano Hotel for the donation because it’s a sign of the love they have for us. This is also a great opportunity for us Genocide widows to fight against isolation, poverty and cases of malnutrition in our respective homes,” Chantal Mukamusonera, who was among the beneficiaries, said.

She added that they will also help their fellow Genocide survivors benefit from the cows.

Mukamusonera requested the hotel to extend similar assistance to other vulnerable survivors in other areas in the district.

On the same day, the hotel management also organized a function to remember five of their employees killed during the Genocide.
