THE National U-17 football team’s supporters are increasing by the day, Ostine Arinaitwe reports.

The British High Commissioner to Rwanda Benedict Llewellyn-Jones has joined the Friday football campaign which is geared towards garnering support for the junior wasps ahead of the Fifa U-17 World Cup in Mexico.

‘Football Friday’ is a campaign that was started last month by Kumunini Ltd and Kigali Serena Hotel and involves people wearing their Amavubi jerseys every Friday at home, at work and on the streets to show support for the team.

The Envoy told Times Sport yesterday that he will rally other Diplomatic corps in the country to join the campaign because it is noble.

"It is really important for Rwanda because the team represents the future of football in the country, so I will talk to all the other Diplomats in the country to join this cause,” the ambassador said.

The Junior Wasps finished runners-up to Burkina Faso in the 9th Africa U-17 Championship in January and are expected to jet back from France this evening.

The team will regroup next week ahead of a high profile friendly against Tottenham’s U-17 side in London.

Rwanda, Congo Brazzaville, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso will represent the African continent at the global showpiece which is slated to run from June 18-July 10.
