The National Cross Country team needs Frw. 47 millions ahead of the 36th IAAF World event due in Edinburgh, Scotland on March 30.
Rwanda Athletics Federation (RAF) Secretary General, Appolinaire Munyangoga told Times Sport that the above stated amount is needed to enable the team take part in this year’s edition.
"We expect the Sport Ministry to sponsor the athletics team to a tune of Frw. 10 millions. The remainder fees will be catered for by the national athletics body and aid from the international athletics body," Munyangoga said.
Meanwhile, RAF has selected two teams to represent Rwanda at this year’s edition.
A male and female team composed of six athletes each will hoist the country’s flag in Scotland.
The Edinburgh bound team has already been selected and is yet to start a one-month residential training in preparation for the World event.
The 2008 World Cross Country team include ;
Men; S.Rukundo, C.Ndayikengurikiye, JB.Simuceka, G.Hakizimana, F.Ntirenganya, G. Rutayisire, R.Safari, A.Gakwaya and D.Disi.
Women; A.Musabyeyezu, C.Mukasakindi, P.Musengimana, G.Nyirahabimana, E.Nyirabarame, E.Mukarugwiza, C.Nyiraguhirwa, JD’Arc Mukakigeri and A. Nyiransabimana.
