HUYE- Residents in Gishamvu sector, Huye District, have pledged to embrace family planning as way of improving their social welfare.
The pledge was made, Thursday, after a four-day training in family planning, balanced diet and control of HIV/Aids.
The training that attracted over 150 residents was organised by the National Women Council.
Couples were selected from various parts of the sector and they discussed the impact of family planning in the development of their households, the fight against HIV and the preparation of balanced diet, especially for children.
Speaking after the function, the residents noted that embracing family planning methods was very crucial because it provides an avenue for someone to develop and improve economically.
"My financial resources are very limited and I hardly cater for all the needs of my family. That’s why I have decided, together with my husband, to embrace birth control. I believe this will improve our lives,” Eugenie Mbarushimana, one of the trainees said.
Speaking at the function, Yvette Muteteri, the officer in charge of Health, Education and Social Affairs at the council, noted that some people were still reluctant to embrace family planning methods.
"We hope that through intensive sensitisation campaigns, we will help people adopt family planning methods because this will facilitate economic growth,” she observed.
