Parliamentarians from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, on Thursday evening, vowed to boost cross-border security by use of efficient communication between the two institutions.

The collaboration was announced during the visit by a delegation of DRC legislators who were in the country on four-day study tour.

During their visit, the Congolese lawmakers, led by Senator Laurent Kisange, spent time monitoring movements along the Rusizi border post.

"Both Parliaments have committees in charge of cooperation. They have been exchanging visits and the DRC delegation was here on a courtesy call,” said MP Adolph Bazatoha, who heads the Rwandan committee made up of 13 MPs and four Senators.

The Congolese committee is made up of 53 lawmakers.
Bazatoha added that Rwandan lawmakers were in DRC on a similar tour.

"Part of their visit was to learn issues related to gender equality, decentralisation and security and people’s relations along the Rwanda-DR Congo border,” he said.

Bazatoha added that during their visit at the Rusizi border, Rwanda and DR Congo MPs interacted with the business community and students around the border post.

The DRC lawmakers also held talks with several officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion.

At the end of their visit, the Congolese delegation signed ‘The Kigali Declaration’ in which all parties agreed to boost relations, ensure proper interaction between members of both parliaments and cooperation between the two countries.
