NATIONAL cricket team coach Davis Turinawe has one made change in the team that will compete in next month’s ICC Africa T20 Division 2 tournament in South Africa.

Middle order batsmen Bob Bashil Songa comes in for Christian Mwijanda who opted out because of academic commitments.

"He hardly trained with the team because of school commitments so I did not want to take a gamble on him,” the former Ugandan fast bowler said before adding, "But we have good cover in Songa.”

Turinawe took charge of the team early this month after former coach Anorld Adam returned to his home country (Australia) and is keen to emulate his predecessor, who won last month’s ICC Africa Division 3 T20 tournament in Ghana.

"It is going to be a lot tougher in South Africa because of the nature of the opposition but the boys are up for the task,” Turinawe added.

The four-day tournament which starts May 14 is one of several regional qualifying events for next year’s Twenty20 World Cup that will be hosted by Sri Lanka.

Group A pits favourites Tanzania against Botswana, Zambia, Swaziland and Mozambique while
Rwanda is drawn in Group B alongside Malawi, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria.

The winner in South Africa qualifies for the ICC Africa Twenty20 Premier League scheduled for July in Kenya. Some of the other teams in the fray include Uganda, Namibia and Kenya.
