Ntagwabira targets Peace Cup

NEW Rayon Sport coach Jean Marie Ntagwabira has promised to end the club’s six-year trophy drought by guiding the team to this year’s Peace Cup.

With the Primus National Football League (PNFL) already in APR’s grip, Rayon’s best shot at silverware is the Peace Cup and the former APR and Atraco coach proved just how serious he is by masterminding yesterday’s 3-1 victory over Sorwathe.

Right from the first whistle, the Blues proved too strong for the second division side and it was only a matter of time before the goals started coming.
Selemani Kiputa, Jamal Mwiseneza and Mike Sserumaga scored the goals to guide the team to the next round (1/8).

Ntagwabira was officially unveiled to the media on Tuesday evening by the club owner Albert Rudatsimburwa after signing a short-term contract until the end of the season.

Regarded as one of the best coaches in the country after winning seven trophies with APR (three league trophies, three Amahoro Cup titles and a Cecafa Cup trophy) and a league title with Atraco, the 37-year-old was quick to assure Rayon fans that their trophy drought is going to become a thing of the past.

"I’m happy to join such a big club. I couldn’t resist the offer to manage one of the best clubs in the country,” he said.
"After talking to the club management, I must say that the future looks bright and I want to be part of it.

We have a good team but we need to raise the confidence levels in the dressing room and get the players believing again,” he noted.

Ntagwabira will work closely with former La Jeunesse coach Francois Kalisa and former Kiyovu assistant coach Yves Rwasamanzi.

The blues have endured a tough season. They currently lie seventh on the Primus league table after collecting 18 points from 15 matches.
