KIGALI - Kigali City Council authorities headed by the Mayor, Fidele Ndayisaba, yesterday, toured several parts of the city to assess the implementation of development projects funded by Common Development Fund (CDF).

CDF funded projects worth Rwf 2.5 billion are currently under implementation in the three districts of the city.

Among the projects visited were 290 hectares of terraces valued at about Rwf 140m constructed in the hilly areas of Nyamirambo and Nduba sectors in Nyarugenge and Gasabo districts respectively. 

Other projects are tarmac and stone-paved roads and security lights installed in Nyarugenge.

The officials, who also included the director of CDF, Letitia Nkunda, visited water channels in Kimisagara and the newly constructed Nduba Health Centre, which will offer health services to over 14,600 residents who previously had to travel over five kilometres to the nearest health facility.

 However, the health centre, which has about ten employees, including nurses and mid-wives, apparently has insufficient medical equipment.
"We are now going to seek help from concerned departments to ensure that all the equipment required by the health centre to be fully operational are acquired,” Ndayisaba said.

KCC intends to construct seven more health centres this year, to the tune of Rwf 1.8 billion, in the seven sectors that have no health facilities.

Ndayisaba noted that the city will also soon start constructing other terraces in hilly areas to contain soil erosion, which is a threat to people living and cultivating in such sites. 

He said that the projects were well implemented within the set time-frame.

Nkunda said that projects worth about Rwf 225 billion have been implemented across the country since 2002, with Rwf 11.4 billion of that sum used in Kigali City. 

Meanwhile, CDF has provided jobs to over 3,590 poor people since the beginning of the VUP Umurenge Programme that started three years ago.
