Rwanda is set to hold its first exhibition in Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo as a way of strengthening the political and economic relationship of both countries.

The EXPO, which is organised by the Private Sector Federation (PSF), Rwanda Development Board (RDB), RwandAir and Ministry of Trade and Industry, will take place from May 28 to 30, 2011.

The development follows President Paul Kagame’s visit to Congo Brazzaville last year and the launch of RwandAir’s direct flights to the West African country.
The Acting Director of Investments and Special Projects at PSF, Ephrem Karangwa, said the exhibition is organised in line with the Government’s efforts to promote the country’s products in regional markets.

"As the national carrier (RwandAir) is opening up new routes, it’s a huge opportunity to Rwandan traders to showcase Rwandan products to these new routes,” Karangwa explained.

With a population of over five million people, Congo-Brazzaville is rich in petroleum contributing over 70 percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP); the country imports most of its products from Europe.

Karangwa said this would be a very great opportunity for the country as the search for regional markets is increasing.
The event will attract the business community in Congo- Brazzaville and their counterparts in Rwanda to display their products in search for market opportunities.

"The exhibition of Rwandan products will last for three days with an official launch on the first day. Agro-processing, handcraft, ICT and others sectors are to be represented,” he added.

The expo, which will also attract renowned businessmen and investors in Congo Brazzaville, is said to mark the beginning of a sustained trading relationship with Congo.

It is expected to attract more than 30 exhibitors from Rwanda.
