Fans in Bugarama Sector, Western Province on Easter lined up for hours to get the autographs of the Urban Boys, who were in the area for a concert.
"For the first time, I saw fans in Rwanda restlessly stopping us for autographs,” said Nizzo, a member of the group.
"Since it’s our first time in Rusizi, we had no idea that people liked our music,” he added.
"We have been greatly moved by how famous our music is, and the way people wished the show never came to an end.” The crowd’s favourite hits were ‘umwanzuro’, ‘indahiro’ and ‘intego’.
Security personnel had to intervene to save the artistes from a crowd of fans, who had surrounded the crooners for autographs. The group later performed at Hotel Ten to Ten to a huge crowd.
"I have learnt some tactics of controlling the audience while on stage from the Urban Boys,” NG Drama, an artiste from Rusizi confessed.
Speaking to The New Times, one of the organisers, Albert Mugwaneza, said the concert aimed at ending the holidays in style; enhancing Rusizi’s music scene and providing entertainment to Rusizi and Nyamasheke.
