SILVERBACKS string side -Hulks defied all odds to finish third in the Nile 7s rugby tourney which was held on Saturday at Dam waters grounds in Jinja-Uganda.
The Hulks sailed through the group stages smoothly after winning all their games against Spartans 14-0, Lord Mead 12-7 and Nile Rugby club 28-0.
In the quarters, the Hulks defeated Stormers 14-13 in a very tight match that brought out the best in both sides.
Kisumu rugby club then ended the team’s fairy tale run after a 25-14 defeat in the semi-final.
Kiboko won the 7s tourney after defeating Kisumu 28-10 in the final.
Although they did not win any trophy, Hulks team manager Jean Baptiste Itanzi praised the youngsters for putting up a spirited fight.
"Our main target was to win a trophy but I’m grateful this youthful side managed to reach the semi-finals of the Main Cup. It was a major leap for the team,” Itanzi noted.
The national rugby league is scheduled to start towards the end of May.
