According to police, after kidnapping the infant, the duo asked the mother to pay a ransom of Rwf 400,000 to release the baby.
They said that failure by the mother to pay the ransom would result in chopping off of the baby’s head.

Miriam Mukakinani, the mother, said that she accepted to pay the ransom, after meeting the kidnappers in one of the nearby bushes.
She then tipped off the police who escorted her to the rendezvous.
After sensing that the mother might have informed the police, the suspects took off and left the baby, who was immediately discovered by a cattle keeper. The child was later taken to Isange One Stop Centre for medical check up.

Police spokesperson, Supt Theos Badege, urged the youth to join productive initiatives instead of indulging in activities that would put their future in jeopardy.
"They should participate in initiatives and be self reliant other than joining criminal ventures like these,” he advised.
According to Badege, the suspects would be charged with terrorism and kidnapping.
