Kimironko youth visit Nyamata Genocide memorial site

Youth from Kimironko Sector, Gasabo District, on Saturday, visited Nyamata Genocide Memorial Site in Bugesera District to pay tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The youth, pledged to intensify the fight against genocide ideology amongst their colleagues and local communities to ensure that the Genocide never happens again.

Youth from Kimironko Sector, Gasabo District, on Saturday, visited Nyamata Genocide Memorial Site in Bugesera District to pay tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The youth, pledged to intensify the fight against genocide ideology amongst their colleagues and local communities to ensure that the Genocide never happens again.

"According to what the guide told us, I realise that the youth were used massively in the (executing) Genocide,” Divine Tuyizere, one of the youth noted.

The team was lead by Anna Mugabo, the Director General of Labour and Employment in the Ministry of Public Service and Labour, who doubles as the Kimironko Sector representative at the district advisory council.

In her speech, she reminded the youth of the importance of the commemoration, challenging them to respect and work hard to develop the country.

"Those who killed never wanted these people to even be remembered, but as we commemorate, we give the victims outstanding respect,” Mugabo said.
