AN intoxicating day of Primus League action yesterday ended with leaders APR beaten for the first time this season, SC Kiyovu held by relegation bound Musanze and 2004 champions Rayon Sport thrashed by Etincelles 2-0.

APR’s 14-match unbeaten run was finally halted by AS Kigali who claimed a precious 1-0 victory at Kigali Regional Stadium, although the damage was minimized by Kiyovu’s 1-all draw against Musanze and the Blues’ defeat at the hands of Etincelles who are fine-tuning themselves for this year’s Cecafa Kagame Cup.

Early on, APR pressed hard and it appeared that Ernie Brandts’ side were set to extend their unbeaten run to 15 matches but AS Kigali slowly picked themselves up.

Mid-way through the second half, Imran Nshimiyimana put the Kigali City side ahead with a well struck shot from Innocent Habyarimana’s cross on the left wing.

Habyarimana had dribbled past Bebeto Lwamba before chipping in a clever ball to Nshimiyimana.
APR pressed on for an equaliser but AS Kigali held their ground to secure three crucial points.

It was a forgettable evening for the army side who played the final 15 minutes with ten men following Jean Claude Iranzi’s red card.

"We missed several chances and a red card only made it harder for us. But we are not going to lose sleep over this defeat. We shall come back stronger in the next game,” the Dutchman said.

Meanwhile, AS Kigali coach Thierry Hitimana was full of praise for his boys.

"We were able to contain them (APR) in the midfield and made the most of that one chance,” he added.
APR remain top on 42 points, eleven ahead of SC Kiyovu who drew away to Musanze while Police hammered Marines to move to within a point of Kiyovu who are in second place.

Etincelles are fourth following a 2-0 win over struggling Rayon Sport at Umuganda Stadium.

Relegation battling side AS Muhanga earned a point away to Amagaju following a goalless draw while La Jeunesse picked maximum points following a slim 1-0 win over Mukura.
