MTN introduces Twitter SMS

MTN Rwanda has introduced a new product dubbed ‘MTN Twitter SMS’, which allows its subscribers to create a twitter account using their Mobile phone.The service also enables MTN’s clients to send and receive twitter notifications or tweets and direct messages sent to their twitter account via SMS instantly.

MTN Rwanda has introduced a new product dubbed ‘MTN Twitter SMS’, which allows its subscribers to create a twitter account using their Mobile phone.

The service also enables MTN’s clients to send and receive twitter notifications or tweets and direct messages sent to their twitter account via SMS instantly.

"To activate the service, MTN client is required to send a word ‘start’ to 3434. Incase he/she doesn’t have a Twitter account, the subscriber is required to sign up to 3434,” MTN said in a statement.

The statement further stated that  existing user on twitter are required to send a username to 3434 then later send the user password on the same number.
"To confirm activation a user is supposed to ‘ok’ to 3434,” the statement said.
 
To start following a user, an MTN subscriber sends ‘Follow MTN RWANDA’ to 3434 to start following MTN Rwanda on Twitter.

"To stop following a user, a subscriber is required to send a word ‘unfollow username’ to 3434 to stop following someone on twitter,” the statement further explains.

To turn on and off all tweet notifications, users are required to send a word ‘On MTNRWANDA’ to 3434 to start receiving SMS notification of tweets from MTN Rwanda.

"Every SMS sent to 3434 is charged at 10Rwf for Prepaid and Postpaid customers. Receiving SMS notifications from 3434 is free,” MTN official said in a statement.
