Compassion International-Rwanda chapter, Wednesday, donated laptops to 88 students from various institutions of higher learning.

The beneficiaries are under the NGO`s Leadership Development Programme (LDP), that facilitates students to acquire university education as well as Christian-based leadership skills.

Handing over the laptops, the Programme Director, Manasseh Gihana Wandera, urged the students to use the computers effectively, so as to improve their skills to become better service providers.

"We have great belief in you, which is the reason we do everything we can to develop your skills so that you can serve this nation efficiently in the future,” Wandera said.

The students were drawn from the National university of Rwanda (NUR), School of Finance and Banking (SFB), Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Umutara Polytechnic and Kigali Institute of Education (KIE).

In addition to the laptops, the students were also given flash disks and modems to help them connect to the Internet. The whole project cost over Rwf 35m.

One of the beneficiaries, Egide Twahirwa, a third year accounting student at SFB, appreciated the NGO`s effort, saying the development would make their learning process easier.

"Since I now have access to the internet all the time, I believe research will be easier,” Twahirwa said.

Rev. Dr. Samuel Rugambaga, the Country Director of Compassion International-Rwanda, called upon students to strive for excellence following the acquisition of the learning tools.

"Target excellent results in your performance and these laptops should guide you to make a difference,” Rugambaga said.

He also pointed out that the NGO plans to have supported at least 3,000 students to access university education.Currently, they support 105 students.
