This year’s Labour Day celebrations will focus on supporting and promoting cooperative societies and associations.
Addressing reporters, yesterday, the Minister of Public Service and Labour, Anastase Murekezi, said that the day will be marked at the institutional level.
"This time, government institutions will celebrate the day on April 29 and the Private ones will do it on 1st May,” he said.
This year’s theme; "Employment promotion through supporting professional cooperatives and associations”, will emphasise on promoting hands-on skills through cooperatives and associations.
Murekezi stressed that the theme fits well with the government policy of increasing the number of entrepreneurs in small and medium enterprises through the formation of cooperative societies.
"We shall sensitise cooperatives and associations to continue promoting their work in order to increase their productivity,” he noted.
Murekezi said that they are currently working with the Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA), districts and various sectors to choose the best cooperatives and associations of the same profession towards promoting employment in their respective districts.
He added that, there would be a social dialogue between employers and their employees on Labour Day to raise their problems at work and address them.
The Minister stated that, during the Day’s celebrations, outstanding cooperatives and associations would be rewarded for their efforts in creating employment opportunities.
