THE National Paralympic Committee for Rwanda (NPC-Rwanda) has claimed the Sport Accord ‘Spirit in Sport’ award.

NPC Rwanda won the award through its Development Project ‘Engineering the future and promoting Paralympic Sport in Africa’.

In a statement from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), chief Sir Philip Craven MBE said, "I was honoured to be at the General Assembly and was able to receive the award on behalf of NPC Rwanda, the people of Rwanda and the IPC.”

NPC Rwanda beat Fifa and Special Olympics to the award.
In 2004, NPC Rwanda guided the country to her first ever Paralympic medal courtesy of Jean de Dieu Nkundabera in 800m.

The same year, Rwanda claimed the best blocker award at the 22nd Sitball European Championship in Emmelshausen, Germany.

Last year, Rwanda beat defending champions and favourites Germany 21-10 to claim the Sitball World Cup.
