Musoni tours projects in Nyagatare and Gatsibo

NYAGATARE/GATSIBO-The Minister of Local Government, James Musoni, over the weekend, paid a visit to various developmental projects in the districts of Nyagatare and Gatsibo in Eastern Province.

He inspected a 1,500 hectare marshland in Tabagwe Sector, where the government had invested over Rwf 8 billion in rice farming.

Accompanied by the Governor of the Eastern Province, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, and local leaders in Nyagatare, the Minister was given a guided tour of irrigation canals, drainage and hydraulic structures under construction.

The project, set to be completed by the end of this year, is expected to produce 21,000 tonnes of rice annually with a projected annual income of Rwf4.6b.

The Minister also toured a housing site of the Social Security Fund Of Rwanda where over 200 modern houses will be constructed and a US$10 million granite factory in Rutaraka Cell, Nyagatare Sector.

On the second day of his visit, the Minister commissioned Ndama Health Centre before heading to Gatsibo District, where he also inaugurated another health centre in Gitoki Sector.

Speaking to reporters shortly after touring Nyagatare, Musoni said that the main purpose of his visit was to witness the progress made in developing the District.

"I am impressed with the way Nyagatare has moved from a formerly remote district to a developing one,” he said.
