NYARUGENGE - Police, over the weekend, seized marijuana worth Rwf 5.2 million in a house in Munanira cell, Nyakabanda sector, Nyarugenge District,.Among those arrested in connection with the drugs were Omega Tambere, a 28- year- old Congolese national, Olivier Sharangabo and 21 year old Abubar Musovu.

The marijuana, contained in sacks, was concealed in fridges, ceiling, and in other rooms in the house.

It is reported that the owner of the house, Claude Byusa, who is alleged to have been conniving with Tambere and his colleagues to traffic the drugs from D.R. Congo, managed to escape after realising that police was hunting them down.

"This is now the third time I have seen them bringing drugs but when I tried to report, they threatened to chase me out of the house,” Musovu, a relative to Byusa, told police.
Police spokesperson, Theos Badege, warned against dealing in drugs, adding that residents should report all suspects to local authorities.

"We have discovered that majority of domestic violence cases, rape, murder and other crimes are caused by abuse of these drugs. Therefore, we shall continue arresting all those who deal in drugs.”
Police urged nationals and authorities around the D.R. Congo and other borders to be vigilant.

Tambere, who claimed to be a student in Goma in Eastern Congo, said had come to Rwanda to seek treatment after suffering from skin diseases, a claim police refuted.
"I know nothing. I had just come for treatment here in Rwanda. My mother is even Rwandan,” he said.

Police also found more Marijuana at the home of Albert Mukasa, a brother to Byusa, who resides in Jali Sector but Police is yet to discover his whereabouts.
According to the residents, Byusa and his colleagues had been trying to obtain Rwandan national identity cards.

Asia Ayinkamiye, a local leader, urged parents to prevent their children from associating with unknown people, who would otherwise indulge them in such bad practices.

Meanwhile, police recently destroyed marijuana worth millions, which was intercepted as it was being sneaked into the country from Uganda through the Cyanika border.
