KIGALI - Never Again Rwanda (NAR), a youth-based human rights and peace-building organisation, in conjunction with Ingenzi Youth Association, yesterday, participated in the ‘Walk to Remember,’ to honour the, over a million, Tutsi killed during the 1994 Genocide.

The walk, which started from Kinamba, a Kigali surburb, ended at the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Centre, where they remembered the genocide victims by laying wreaths on mass graves.

The event was held under the theme "Let’s remember the youth who were killed in the 1994 Genocide because they would be the future of tomorrow if they were still alive”.

Speaking to the youth after the walk, Dr Joseph Nkurunziza, NAR’s Executive Director, said that as they remember what happened, they should also keep in mind that they are the future of tomorrow.

"We should continue remembering our beloved ones because they went when we still loved them,” he said.

Nkurunziza urged the youth to fight against genocide ideology and any other form of divisionism.

"We should fight anyone who promotes genocide ideology because it is evident that genocide leaves nothing but destruction in its wake,” he noted.

The Chairman of the Ingenzi Youth Association, Albert Santos Dukuzumuremye, called upon the youth to continue remembering genocide and preserving their dignity.

 "As young people, we should fight against those who want to corrupt our minds with the genocide ideology,” he said.

One of the attendants, Grace Usanase, remarked that remembering the victims of the genocide educates young people about the causes and consequences of the genocide.
