RWANDA’s ace rally driver Davite Giancarlo hopes to put on a better show when he competes in the two-day 611,53km second round of the FIA African Rally Championship (ARC), Sasol rally which paces off today in South Africa.

Davite who has been in South Africa since Monday is aiming to upstage reigning ARC champion James Whyte and former African champion Conrad Rautenbach.

The opening round of the 2011 FIA ARC, the Toyota Zimbabwe Challenge Rally last month, saw Davite finish third behind the Zimbabwean pair to earn 15 points.

The Sasol Rally features a strong South African contingent the form of Schalk Burger Jr and Armand du Toit driving their JRM-built Powerlines Africa Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X and the current SA Privateers' Rally Champion Conrad Rautenbach and new French co-driver Nicolas Klinger, who are also tackling the ARC in their S2000 G-Fuel Ford Fiesta in tandem with their South African campaign.

This is the first time Davite and Sylvia Vindevogel in their KAPS Transmissions Subaru Impreza STI are competing in the South African rally after it was drafted into the African rally calendar this year.

From Zambia comes the familiar team of Muna Singh and David Sihoka in their Madison Insurance Subaru Impreza STI, fourth in the opening round.

Singh, a double ARC Champion and nephew of Satwant Singh (an eight times ARC title holder) is no stranger to SA fans.Forty-eight crews have enlisted to compete in the rally.
