As we conclude the Genocide Memorial or commemoration period, we need to do a lot in order to enable us go through the period with as little ado as possible.First and foremost, we need to continue with the affirmation that, “Never Again, should Genocide ever occur in our land”; not withstanding all its ideology aka “ingengabitekerezo”. So much blood has been shed that, we do not have to shed any more.
As we conclude the Genocide Memorial or commemoration period, we need to do a lot in order to enable us go through the period with as little ado as possible.
First and foremost, we need to continue with the affirmation that, "Never Again, should Genocide ever occur in our land”; not withstanding all its ideology aka "ingengabitekerezo”. So much blood has been shed that, we do not have to shed any more.
On both the religious and moral platform, we are duty bound and must safeguard all forms of life irrespective of whom it belongs to. It is the duty of any peace loving human being to ensure that, Genocide should never occur in any part of the world!
In light of the above, we at Motoring corner would like to call upon all people who reside in Rwanda, to observe the mourning period with as much humility and sobriety as possible.
There are many people who either directly or indirectly get traumatised by the actions that culminated into the 1994 Rwandan Genocide such that, they lose control. This goes out to all road users, motorists, motorcyclists and pedestrians alike.
As we move on the roads, we have to be obvious of other road users such that, we avoid any scene that will cause more pain to others e.g. physical injuries, mental and moral pains that could result out of any road mishap occurring during this period.
During such periods, many people get carried away by the events relating to the Genocide such that, one could easily and unconsciously walk into a moving vehicle and if the driver of such a vehicle is not alert and vigilant, the results could be regrettable. On the other hand, a driver or cyclist could fall into such a category that, he may to get carried away alike and may not be obvious of other road users; a factor that could lead to undesired effects.
In order to avoid that, it is a collective effort for us all, to be our neighbours’ "watchman”. We should try and avoid drinking and driving as well as driving under antidepressants because this could expose us all to accidents.
May the Good Lord watch over all of us, may he bless this Nation and Rest in Eternal Peace, all the Souls of those hundreds of thousands of innocent Souls that were brutally and prematurely terminated by the Genocide perpetrators. May Justice prevail - Amen
