As an ardent football fan, I am very pleased to learn that the cash reward for this year’s winner of Kagame Cup Championship has been doubled.

The $100,000 prize is quite a lot and would increase momentum and competition among the clubs. The move is healthy and will promote African football.

For those who follow football, you may have noticed the evolution of African football over the past years. The continent has numerous talented players doing well in Europe. Today, African national teams have given a good account of themselves internationally, unlike in the past.

However, it is important to note that the success is segmented, mainly registered in West and North Africa; places where finances to support football are available.
Since President Paul Kagame started supporting the CECAFA tournament, our region has drastically improved.

Now, over twelve countries send teams to contest for the prestigious CECAFA Kagame Cup, unlike in the past when only five or six countries participated.
