Eating the right foods makes weight loss possible.

Most women dread being over weight or having body shapes they are uncomfortable with. Many that are over weight think it is a nightmare and they will do anything to shed off the excess fat. However, some of the measures they resort to have proven harmful to their body.

Denise Ingabire, 22 years, a resident of Nyamirambo says she has tried several quick-weight loss tricks that have failed.

"People keep telling me that I am over weight and it makes me uncomfortable. I have tried so many diets and creams but none has been helpful. I have now resorted to exercising and it feels good and effective compared to all those diets that promise quick results,” says Ingabire.

Nelson Mukasa, the gym instructor and trainer at Health and Fitness Center Limited at Alpha Palace Hotel says, "exercising should be something done on a regular basis if you want to get rid of fats and excess weight.”

"Ladies should keep active and not just sited all day if they want to shed off some weight,” Mukasa said.
He added that eating right is one of the best weight loss practices.

"One should also eat right in order to have a desired body weight. Junk food such as French fries and other oily and sweet food stuffs should be avoided,” advised the gym instructor.

Eating healthy foods does play a big role in weight loss. Every meal should at least consist of proteins. One should stock their kitchen with healthy convenience foods such as fruits and vegetables instead of stocking sausages and other fatty foods that enhance weight gain.

Avoid eating right before you go to bed. One should have supper early enough so as to allow the food to digest. Night time snacks, midnight snacks are a bad idea for someone who is trying to lose weight. However, if you must have one, then let it be a fruit, vegetable or any protein food.

Vegetables and fruits flush out the system and keep the body hydrated. Drinking lots of water and beverages that are calorie-free is good. This is not only healthy but will avoid hunger and fight the urge to eat something that could be unhealthy.

Other simple and regular exercises include; jogging, walking, swimming or even skipping a rope.

Diets to avoid

• Diets that claim to work because of special supplements, creams, portions.
These always create an impression that one doesn’t need to exercise or cut out some foods as long as they make use of them.

• Diets that promise drastic weight loss.
You can potentially drop off a lot of weight in the first two weeks of dieting but after, it slows down. You run the risk of losing muscle mass and your metabolism slowing down in response, if there is drastic weight loss.

• Diets that are less than 1000 calories.
These are hard to sustain and often leave one feeling irritable with a bad headache and hunger pans.

• Diets that claim to be effortless.
These should also be avoided because weight loss takes effort and focus.

Losing weight is a gradual process but achievable. Exercising and eating the right type of food are key to shedding off extra weight. True health experts will advocate losing weight slowly and gradually so you can melt away fat and not muscle.
