The Minister of Justice, Tharcisse Karugarama, has urged his staff to be at the forefront in fighting the Genocide ideology.

He made the remarks, yesterday, during an event to reflect on the role of the justice system in the fight against Genocide, as part of the 17th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

"We have the responsibility to champion the truth and preserve the dignity of our people and our nation, and to fight all Genocide deniers and perpetrators, wherever they may be,” he said, emphasising the theme for this year’s commemoration.

"There are many enemies that take pride in distorting our history, confusing our people, so we have to continue fighting such people,” Karugarama added.

He noted that Rwandans should not be prisoners of the past; but should have hope for a bright future.

"Let us stand for truth and fight evil and any form of injustice in our country, individually and collectively,” he said.

The minister pointed out that Rwanda had managed to rebuild herself over the past 17 years.

"We shall continue remembering the victims of the Genocide and ensure that what happened in 1994 never happens again,” he emphasised.

Later in the day, staff of the ministry visited a Genocide Exhibition at Petit Stade.
