KIGALI - A man, of Congolese nationality, suspected to have robbed US$ 160,000 (approximately Frw 94,400,000 million) from a Burundian, was handed over to Burundian Police by the Rwanda National Police (RNP), at Nemba border post, yesterday.

Sese Banga, was arrested at Kigali international airport, as he attempted to board a flight to Nairobi. The suspect, left Burundi aboard a RwandaAir flight to Kigali, where he spent a few days before making travel arrangements to Nairobi.

After receiving the suspect, the head of the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Bujumbura, Emmanuel Nyamwiza, said that the existing cooperation between the two police institutions had helped combat cross-border crime.

"The Rwandan Police has helped us on several occasions to arrest criminals. We have also retrieved stolen property, including cars. Likewise, they have approached us for help in arresting some of the criminals who have fled into Burundi,” Nyamwiza said.

According to Police spokesperson, Superintendent Theos Badege, the cooperation between both Police institutions should be a warning to criminals that they should not expect to roam freely within the region.

"It should be a clear sign that criminals have nowhere to run and people should feel safe to go about their normal business,” Supt. Badege said.
Meanwhile, Police have arrested Richard Niyonsenga, who is suspected to have been involved in the murder of Kisoro district parliamentary aspirant.

The suspect will soon be transferred to Interpol in Kigali and later handed over to Interpol Uganda.

The Rwanda National Police is committed to ensuring cooperation with other police forces hence combating crime both nationally and at the regional level, Badege emphasised.
