KIGALI - The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of  East African Affairs, Robert Ssali, has called upon residents of Gatsata Sector in Gasabo District to always fight the Genocide ideology and any ethnic divisionism in their respective communities.

Ssali made the call, on Sunday, while addressing Gatsata residents during a function organised to honour Genocide victims in the area.

He said that only 17 years down the road, the country had made tremendous progress in unity and reconciliation.

"During the Genocide, our country was in total darkness and lacked sense of direction, but we are out of there. You should, therefore, strive to consolidate this unity to ensure we don’t go back to the darkness,” Ssali said.

He urged Genocide survivors to overcome remorse by working hard, which, he said, would prove wrong those who thought they would finish them off.

Ssali further encouraged residents to always speak the truth about what happened during the Genocide and support vulnerable survivors.

The Executive Secretary of Gatsata Sector, Xavier Kalisa, noted that there was need to construct a modern memorial site in the sector.

Ssali urged residents to open a bank account through which money to support the construction would be channelled. He pledged Rwf100, 000 towards the cause.
