Balton Rwanda, a subsidiary of Balton CP, plans to dismiss approximately 28 employees by the end of this month, in an exercise aimed at trimming operating costs, Business Times reports.

A Balton staff that preferred anonymity for fear of reproach, told Business Times that management is planning to terminate its employment contracts with most of its workers.
 
"We are a bit scared because we don’t know our fate so far. We don’t know the criteria the management is going to use in this exercise,” the source explained.

The General Manager Balton Rwanda, Bob Gatera, confirmed the development saying that the company had so many employees who are "paid for doing nothing”.
"Three quarters of our employees have been working for a year. They have been paid for doing nothing,” Gatera said.
 
Without divulging the details, Gatera explained that the company no longer had work for three quarters of its staff.  Balton Rwanda employs 37 people.
The majority of the employees that will be affected are local workers.

Balton Rwanda deals in five areas, including ,agriculture, communication, electro mechanical Engineering, public health and projects and services.

Balton CP has more than 40 years of experience in small and large scale project management requiring multi-disciplinary skills and it operates in over 10 countries worldwide. It started operations in Rwanda in 2006.
