Editor,

I am happy to learn that our country will now provide the next East African Community (EAC) Secretary General to replace Juma Mwapachu, whose five-year term is expiring. Indeed, this is good news for the people of Rwanda.

Rwanda has good and capable leaders. I am certain the person Rwanda will appoint to hold the position during the EAC Heads of State Summit scheduled for April 19 will serve to the region’s expectations.

Over the last 17 years, Rwanda under the leadership of President Paul Kagame has produced charismatic leaders.

Donat Kaberuka, the African Development Bank president is doing an outstanding job.

Alloys Mutabingwa, a Rwandan currently holding the position of EAC Deputy Secretary General (Planning and Infrastructure) has done well too. The list is long, i can’t name them all.

Let me take this opportunity to wish the next Secretary General the best.
