THIS year’s Rutsindura Genocide Memorial tournament will be played between June 18-19 at Petit Seminaire de Karubanda.

According to Mbaraga Alexis, the head of the organizing committee, the annual tournament is held in memory of Alphonse Rutsindura and other volleyball players and fans that lost their lives during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Rutsindura, who is a former teacher at Petit Seminaire de Butare (PSB) and lecturer at National University of Rwanda (NUR), was instrumental in helping Volleyball grow.

Later on, he coached the national women volleyball team before becoming the first vice president of the local volleyball federation (FRVB).

This year’s edition, which has attracted sponsorship from CNLG and the Sports Ministry, will attract teams from Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and Uganda.
