KIGALI - Legal representatives from both public and private institutions and members of the Kigali Bar Association yesterday completed a two-day training on Contracts Draft Law currently in Parliament.
The exercise is part of the five sessions organised by the Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD) to build the capacity of legal practitioners based on reforms in Commercial laws.
"We want to ensure that these lawyers are in a position to effectively apply the law as soon as it replaces the existing one,” said Alex Ruzindana, Director of Training, Research and Consultancy at ILPD.
He explained that the law will solve challenges experienced and affecting parties dealing with contracts.
One of the trainers, Bernadette Uwicyeza, a legal consultant working with the World Bank under the Ministry of Justice, said that the ongoing reforms on Commercial laws brings the country to the same level with partner states.
"The existing law was enacted in 1998, and indeed, it has some gaps which will be addressed by the new law,” Uwicyeza said.
She noted that unlike the current law, the reform would provide a purely legal framework to improve on rights of the two parties.
Thierry Ngogo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kigali Bar Association, said the exercise will facilitate lawyers to be competent and improve their work performance.
