Dear Editor,

One of the reasons why many people in the rural areas have remained backward is because they are not informed. For along time, many parts in the rural areas were receiving poor radio and TV signals or nothing at all.

It is therefore pleasing to learn that Radio Rwanda transmitters are going to improve coverage in rural areas.

The media is fundamental in a country’s development. It disseminates information and educates the public on government policies and developmental activities; such as improved agriculture, health issues, fighting poverty among others. People also get exposed to things beyond their area of jurisdiction.

For quality transmission to be achieved in the rural areas, Radio Rwanda needs to upgrade its current transmitter from 100watts to at least two kilo watts. While television transmission, needs to upgrade to 700watts.

Much as the hilly topography of the country attributes to poor television and radio transmission especially in the rural areas, we shall have no more excuses because modern technology overlooks such.
