The Rwandan Ambassador to France, Jacques Kabale, will on Sunday preside over a function to unveil the first Genocide memorial site in France.

According to a statement from the Rwandan Embassy in Paris, the site which will be located in Cluny, in the southern part of Bourgogne region, will contain memorabilia of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, showing how it was planned and implemented.

The inauguration of the memorial site is part of the series of activities organized to mark, for the 17th time, the Genocide. Commemoration activities are being organized by the Rwandan Embassy in France in partnership with the Rwandan Diaspora in France and Italy.

Construction of the memorial site was jointly sponsored by the City of Cluny and the Rwanda National Commission for the Fight against Genocide.

 "A total of 14 commemorative activities will be held in eight different regions in France, while in Italy, commemorative activities will be held in Roma,” reads part of the statement.

It adds that the major event will be held in Paris today at Mur de la Paix (Peace Wall) where French authorities and members of diplomatic corps have been invited.

On the same day commemorative activities will be held in Bordeaux and Lille as well as in Roma, Italy.
