AFTER yet another impressive display in the Hong Kong 10s by the Silverbacks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports and Culture (Minispoc) Jean Pierre Karabaranga has pledged more support to the steadily growing sport.

The Silverbacks improved on last year’s fourth spot finish when they claimed third place after a resounding 33-7 win over Australia’s Double Bay in the third-place playoff.

While other national teams which normally feast on bonuses when they put in a top notch display at the international stage, the team had a cold reception back home but that is set to change if Karabaranga’s words on Tuesday evening are anything to go by.

According to an Official who attended the meeting, the Permanent Secretary promised financial and logistical assistance.

During a brief meeting with the team, Karabaranga promised both financial and logistical support.

"There is going to be a close working relationship between the Sports ministry and the rugby federation; so all these hindrances are going to be minimized,” the official said.

Over the years, the sport has been besieged by financial constraints and federation officials have had to dip in their pockets to finance the team’s travel expenses for regional tournaments.
