Nyanza - The Governor of the Southern Province has called for collective effort by residents and leaders to ensure security and support of Genocide survivors during this forthcoming 17th Genocide commemoration.

Alphonse Munyentwari, made the remarks during a press briefing at the provincial offices in Nyanza.

He said that the commemoration activities should give hope to survivors and focus on how Rwandans can live in harmony.

"The success stories of Genocide survivors is a sign that we have managed to fight genocide and its perpetrators. Let’s work hard, as a team, to build a harmonious and peaceful community,” he said.

The Governor noted that each district will, by the end of this year, have to construct at least one official Genocide memorial site.

Munyentwari urged local leaders to work hard and disseminate information that will enable residents to fight the Genocide ideology. He revealed that the province plans to build 532 houses for Genocide survivors by the end of this year.
