KIGALI - The Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, Shu Zhan, yesterday, paid a courtesy call on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K. Gasana, at Police Headquarters in Kacyiru.

The two discussed issues of bilateral cooperation between the Police institutions of both countries.

The talks centred on ways the Rwanda National Police would benefit from the expertise of its Chinese counterpart through trainings and capacity building.

Proposed areas that the cooperation include fighting cross-border crimes, terrorism, traffic management, cyber crimes and ICT development.

Gasana said the cooperation is an important step in ensuring professionalization of the police force.

"A professional police force is imperative to ensure that policing duties benefit citizens,” Gasana said.

Ambassador SHU Zhan pledged to follow up on the implementation of proposed areas of cooperation.

The director for international cooperation, Chief Superintendent Elisa Kabera, pointed out that Chinese nationals living in Rwanda will be sensitized on some sections of the Rwandan law to facilitate their stay in Rwanda.
