Editor,

Since the launch of Umwalimu SACCO, the teachers’ credit and savings cooperative, the members’ welfare has significantly improved. Today, teachers have access to soft loans and have been able to start self help projects.

Recently, I visited a bee-keeping project in Rwamagana owned by five teachers who have already secured a market in Kenya. They told me they had secured a loan from their SACCO.

initiatives like the teachers’ credit and savings scheme to improve the lives of Rwandans teachers are laudable and must be supported.
