What will be the fate of Rwandatel employees?

Editor,

I am responding to a story that appeared in the yesterday’s issue of The NewTimes titled: "Rwandatel loses mobile licence.”  This did not come to me as a shock since the telecom firm had been in the news over failure to meet all Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority requirements.

However, there is something which is not clear that the management has not explained. Though it is now official that effective midnight Friday April, 8, all Rwandatel subscribers will no longer be able to use their lines for calls or mobile data, it is not clear what will be the fate of employees at Rwandatel.

Does it mean that Rwandatel employees are going to lose their jobs? Will they be taken on by the new owners who will take over the company? The management ought to come out and state the way forward, instead of leaving the employees in suspense.

How about the subscribers? I recently bought a new Sim card and handset from Rwandatel. will  I be compensated by the Rwandatel management?

Somebody must come out and tell the subscribers the way forward. The move to revoke their license was not sudden. They had previously been warned by RURA. so we hope a clear mechanism has been put in place to handle the eventuality.
