KIGALI - The Independent Institute of Lay Adventists of Kigali (INILAK), held its third graduation ceremony, yesterday, and conferred degrees on 1,036 students.

Graduates were awarded Bachelors’ degrees in Law, Economic Sciences and Management.More than half of the graduates were Women.

Speaking at the ceremony, INILAK board chairman, Peter Nkubara, urged the graduates to value their work as they enter the job market.

"Jobs have had a history of being valued in Africa; scholars have written that in African perspective, everyone in the family had to have something to do,” he said adding that they ought to value their jobs if they are to become productive.

"As a graduate, you have to get something to do to develop your families and the country at large,” he said.

Nkubara told the students to love their jobs and periodically evaluate themselves to see if what they invest (in their work) is worth it.

In his speech, the Rector, Dr. Jean Ngamije, thanked the government for enabling private entities to invest.

He urged the graduates to continue seeking knowledge for their own progress and developing the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Education Minister, Dr. Erasme Rwanamiza, the Director General in the ministry, said that that the country expects a lot from the graduates.

"We believe that the knowledge you have acquired will allow you to create your own jobs. We also believe that you will be able to employ other people as a result,” he said.

Rwanamiza urged the graduates to be more devoted to their work and God and to always work with zeal and promised continuous support from the ministry.

"Higher institutions of earning have a big role in developing education in this country. This is why the ministry will always do whatever is in its reach to help them,” he said.
