KIGALI - Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) will soon establish an army store that will enable their personnel to purchase items at subsidized prices, the Army Spokesperson Jill Rutaremara has said.

This follows a recent cabinet resolution that approved a presidential decree setting up the shop.
Rwanda will be the second in the region – after Kenya - to establish such a facility.

The shop, which will also cater for the Rwanda National Police (RNP), will initially deal in household items.
"The duty-free shop will be accessed by all soldiers and policemen and women and their immediate relatives,” Rutaremara said.

The RDF spokesperson added that various locations to put up the stores have been identified, but their establishment will be done in phases due to the infrastructure required.
