Musanze - 100 girls from different sectors in Musanze District, yesterday, completed a six-month training in hairdressing and tailoring.

The training was organized by PSI-Rwanda in partnership with the Anglican Church of Rwanda and Dushishoze Youth Centre.

Most of the girls had either dropped out of school or had no opportunity for formal education.

"I failed to continue with school, my parents could not afford school fees, I was isolated and had resorted to prostitution just to make ends meet,” said 20-year old Ange Mushimire, one of the graduates.

According to Emma Maire Manishimwe, the director of Dushishoze youth centre, after the training, the girls will form a cooperative and start fending for themselves.
"They have acquired skills, they were helpless but after the training, they are in position to fend for themselves,’’ Manishimwe said.

She called upon the district through the youth council to support the girls, especially through financially supporting the cooperative they will form.
The youth also learnt about HIV/Aids, prevention and family planning.

While closing the training, the District vice mayor, Innocent Ndayambaje, urged the youth to become innovative and use the acquired skills to support themselves, their families, and their communities.

The girls trained were between 19 and 24 years old.
